Bye Bye hair

So I cut it. I intend to grow it out. Long if it wants to be, as I promised my husband I would grow my hair instead of cutting my hair. This is definitely the shortest it's been in my life. I love it :)

I bought this from north west scents on Etsy.
northwestscents.etsy.com

It's good. Definitely softening to the hair.

For anyone is White Plains, New York, try Erwin's Barber shop 255 MLK jr. Drive. They're great! Quick and reasonable.

I'll post pics of the BC (big cut) later.

First natural day

Well there is still some relaxer left in my hair, but since a good portion of that broke off, it's not everywhere. It's not noticeable (thankfully) and I usually straighten it and wear it back in a Goody / Scunci stretch comb. Yesterday however I co-washed it with Mane and Tail and some Bentonite soap, and than just conditioned it. I combed it in the shower and when I got out set it with Mane and Tail conditioner mixed with Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I left the curlers in for a few hours and than took them out before going to bed.

...sheesh. It was not a pretty site, most of my hair was natural with these straggly straight ends. (What was I expecting?!) sigh. So I brushed and poofed, put on a wide headband wrap that I made, added the M&T with EVOO, poofed some more, pinned in some of the stragglers and got in my car. So far so good. Looks neat, and my "real" hair is soft.

Cut off an inch

I've taken off about an inch of relaxed hair, and have about 2.5 left of it. Though in some places it's actually broken off {sigh} I haven't put a relaxer in my hair for about 6 weeks, and I have about an inch of growth (tight) so it's a matter of treating my hair the way it would like to be treated, so that it stays in my head instead of coming out. I've been using Fantasia hair polisher and Olive Oil. So far, so good. My hair is soft.

Au Natural

So my plan is to cut out my relaxer this year. I want the option of wearing it straight or having tight Afro curls, and hopefully I can achieve it...this time. I've done this before, only to become frustrated after a while and than put it in again. My hope is that this time, with the right softening products I'll be able to have my cake and eat it too.

When it's natural my hair doesn't curl up the way I like in the back the way I'd like, which precludes me from having the type of "Afro" style that I like to casual occasions. Any suggestions on getting my hair to be a more uniform texture?

Olive Oil

Olive Oil is perfect for so many things. Instead of subjecting my skin (and pocketbook) to chemical laden products, I put Olive Oil on my hair as a conditioner. I also find that a quarter size on my hair every day helps to keep it soft also. Needless to say it's also wonderful on skin. Great for keeping your skin supple without adding "unnecessary" preservatives.

Ways to soften hair

My hair is coarse. Inherently I have no problem with it, I find that it holds style better. To prevent breakage however, being able to soften it up some is key. I find Fantasia Hair Polishers helpful for that. http://www.fantasiahaircare.com/HairPolisher.html

I will also sometimes use pure Shea butter. Thought ti can leave a very heavy coating on hair and is often better used for conditioning.

What's your preferred hair softening product?
